Diversity (being European myself)
Rural living and big cities close by in case I long for pollution and rudeness
Four seasons
Friendly people, at least in the southern part of the state
Diners and food in general
Cons
High housing prices - trying to buy a house for 10 years now, it just keeps on escaping my reach...
Driving around here - the parkway is a nightmare
Car culture - needs more pedestrian/bicycle access, sidewalks anyone?
Corruption (even though this happens everywhere)
Ha, I run out of cons, and that's why I live here.
PRO
1. Gas and sales tax are low
2. Great pre-college level education near NYC
3. Beautiful parks, rivers, and bodies of water (landscape/nature)
4. Job availability to NYC and NY (IT, Finance, Pharma)
5.
CON
1. Property Tax is high and too many small townships
2. Horrible drivers and even worse driving etiquette
3. Road are in poor condition and annoying 50 cent toll booths
4. Corruption is very visible and appears to be more rampant than others
5. Uneven distribution of good mass transportation throughout the state
I'm into my third year of living in NJ, I've only lived in one other state which is NY that I'm comparing NJ to. So to me things like diversity, good place to shop not a pro for me since NY is tough to beat in terms of what you can buy and diversity.
PRO
1) Great Choice of Public or Private Schools ( Excellent Public schools to choose from. Abundance of upper middle class & wealthy towns with top public schools. Abundance of Top Private schools spread across NJ for those willing to pay the price tag)
2) Educated neighbors - ( Abundance of Choices in towns across the state with college educated neighbors & parents. Anyone who has lived in states like Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Ohio understand what this means.
3) Access to beautiful beaches
4) High Paying Jobs compared to National average ( proximity to jobs in NYC a big plus)
5)Choice of suburban living yet proximity to cultural areas such as NYC
6) Overall Safer streets in most suburban towns ( compared to crime in 90% of states)
CONS
1) High Cost of Living
2) Again, High Cost of Living( not as bad as California but still high enough)
3)Too many people for a small state
4) Corruption
5) Status symbol/Keeping up with the neighbors( very similar to many parts of California)

1) Diner, Taylor Ham, Bagels, Pizza.
2) Jersey vibe. Love it.
3) Close to NYC.
4) Soooooooo many places to go.
5) We have a cool accent, even though it makes others cringe.
CONS:
1) Corruption.
2) TRAFFIC.
3) Dunkin' Donuts went bad
4) Too many strip malls
5) We are all in a HURRY ALL THE TIME!
*Excellent 4 seasons weather *Close to NYC, and other mayor cities. *Diverse people & landscape *Good public transportation *Plenty of shopping
Cons:
*Expensive taxes *Expensive home prices/rents *No mayor large city, those we have are ghetto. *Very crowded *Not too much enterteiment, other than malls
Actually we do have large cities. They are just what you would call dangerous. Examples: Camden (the worst criminal record in America) and Vineland (The largest city in New Jersey.)
and before someone comes on here and calls Vineland a crime ridden ghetto, that's ONLY a very small town that's iffy (I'm not scard to drive anywhere at night, but as for walking, I would be wary about wandering off of the Ave in that part of town.). The rest is mostly rural or suburbs.

Ummmm....Camden & Vineland combined are not even the population of Paterson according to 2008 estimates. Hardly what I would call a "large" city.
I hate to say it, but the people of NJ should be more educated before they speak on such things.
While Camden is dangerous, it is very small, under 80,000 people. Vineland is under 60,000.
