Another stupid show like the Housewives of N.J...only way to get them off the air is not to watch, but
that will never happen...our culture is such lately that these shows pop up constantly..I will not watch
this show, have better things to do......
There are a couple remarks in this show from the NY cast "jersey ******* cant party or drive" or "she was the typical jersey ****" then one nearly wrecks and they cheat on their boyfriends and one gets dumped by a quote "jersey guy" because we're more down to earth. We should kick out any guidos we see this summer at Seaside. I'd say there are far more skaters and ethnic jersey croud than there are guidos and those pinhead NYers.
Wow you guys are all taking this waaaay too seriously. I saw the show for the first time last night and I was LMAO. "The situation" really?!?! HAHAHAHA
If any of you here fear that some random miswesterner is going to mistake you for a guido once they find out you are from Jersey maybe you need to tone down the hair gel or something. I don't think I would ever get mistaken for a guidette.
Sure the show plays up stereo types but so do 99% of reality shows it's what makes for good TV, exagerated reality. How annoyed would you all be if they did a REAL REAL housewives of NJ, and there was a show about a SAHM picking up dry cleaning, scrubbing the toilet, helping kids with their homework and making dinner. Lame, boring waste of time and GASP people in Ohio might start to think that Jersey is boring. Oh no. Who cares? The show is funny, laugh a little!
For what it's worth (probably not much) where I grew up (MV/Yonkers) the term 'guido' refered to a specific sub-culture created by young Italian-Americans, though not exclusively, and the term was used proudly. It was never a slur.
Note that it didn't refer to Italian-Americans in general but only that specific sub-culture that was identified by blowback (and now blowout) hairstyles, Cavarichi jeans, and Camaros, gold chains and disco. To call an Italian-American metalhead or preppie or punk rock kid a 'guido' would make no sense.
This was 25 years ago so the term has been around and the new crop on this show are definitely 'guidos' in the classic sense.
First of all, MTV clearly shows at the beginning of the first episode that all but one of the cast members are NOT from New Jersey.
Secondly, it is the FUNNIEST show on TV, and a SPOT ON depiction of Sleaze-side Heights.
Finally, the funniest part of this whole show is how the cast members gush about Seaside Heights as the greatest place in the free world ... LMFAO ... it just illustrates how pathetic these people are and makes the show even funnier.
Pauly and The Situation (In the jacuzzi with sluts and drinks):
"Cheers, cheers.. to being an Italian"
Yeah, Snookie...it's not as dirty as Poughkeepsie.
