I don't see it as an over reaction, a delayed reaction if anything.
Who brings bullets to school and for what reason? South River isn't exactly in the sticks where there's a lot of hunting going on not to mention it's illegal to hunt with a rifle in NJ that would take .22 caliber bullets.
What kind of a parent would be ok knowing that bullets were found in the school?
Where there is smoke, you can usually find fire. In a post Columbine world you can never be too careful. Especially if you have school-aged kids.

a delayed reaction is as bad as no reaction. when dealing with the safety of children, people need to be immediate to react. if your child was in any possible harms way would you down play it as just an over- reaction-another person mention columbine-i agree that you can never be to careful and definately where there is smoke there is fire-and 9/10 times where do kids find these things... parents lock up your things- you would be at fault if anything did happen-and these bullets are illegal-just possessing them is enough to set off alarms-if anything the "reaction" to all this has been an UNDER reaction not over-people need to understand this. personally i am outraged that more hasnt been done and more information isnt available-i wouldnt be surprised if there was a lawsuit-they knew about the bullets thursday but waited until friday to "evacuate"-why let the children in in the first place-you're just putting them in harms way!!! this is coming from a citizen in South River!!!

Mod cut: copyright violation
some kid probably just brought a box like that to show his friend. kids do things like that. they probably like to go shoot cans in the woods or something.
people generally like shooting guns and its a common hobby, so i dont really see this as being something menacing...

"Ronald Grygo, superintendent of South River Schools, said school officials notified police Thursday night, and he was under the impression the bullets were removed then."
Uh-ho, somebody's in trouble. He should have known that the bullets were gone and that the building had been checked before allowing children to return to a regular schedule.

Back In The Good Ole Days
Well I think its overreaction but every body in that position will say things like "THESE DAYS, IN THIS DAY AND AGE, you take no chances". I mean back when I was a kid you could have bullets and hand grenades and molotov cocktails fall out of your pocket in kindergarten and you'd get sent to the principals office for a chit chat and that would be the end of it. Believe me, I know, lol.
Kids used to call in bomb scares in good weather to get everyone to socialize outdoors. Nowadays most of that innocence is lost because no person in charge wants to be liable for another "xxx fill in the blank".

Ok, well here's something that I had no clue about until yesterday:
1010WINS.comÂ* - Second Teen Arrested in Bridgewater Bomb Scare (http://www.1010wins.com/2nd-Teen-Arrested-in-NJ--Columbine-Like--Attack-Pl/5878925 - broken link)
What if the kid who reported it didn't?
And I don't know WHY this didn't make the front page of my newspaper, I live in the same county! I have friends who send their children to this school.
Maybe I get the wrong paper?

Are you guys surprised? Back when I went to high school which was some years ago, that was the norm. Somebody snuck a gun in here, a knife there, a bullet there, had the possible bomb making expert that seemed to have anti social tendencies there, a few fights that got out of hand there. But luckily nothing crazy happened and this was a high school in the suburbs too. Hell, we even had a day off from school one time and this wasn't publicized or anything because there was supposed to be some Columbine like massacre going to happen at our school. They wasn't trying to get the bad publicity I guess so they just gave us these pink letters saying to not show up to class that Monday. I'd like to thank them for the extra day off. This was when we actually had snow.
