Hi All,

I am originally from NJ, born and raised. The problem (well, not so much a problem, but...)is that I am from S. Jersey and haven't really ventured up to N. Jersey much. On the times that I have (I have family that lives in Newark), I have only seen the "not so nice, or safe" areas and don't want to live anywhere near them with my kids.

I am looking to rent. Being recently separated, with three children at home, I can't afford much but I need a decent area, with decent rents, and decent schools. I know that limits me a lot, but I am hoping somebody out here can help. My kids are 2, 9, and 14, so an area with a diverse range of children would be nice.

Also, I don't mind the commute. Most likely, I will be taking the train, so someplace near the transit would be ideal. I don't mind up to an hour commute, if necessary. What would you guys suggest?

I am looking to spend no more than $2000 for a three bedroom. Also, I would prefer a house (so the kids could have a yard) instead of an apartment.

That's not a bad budget. Two towns immediately spring to mind: Rutherford and Fair Lawn in Bergen County. Both are nice towns, with good schools, good commutes and train access, and you could probably find a modest 3BR house in either town to rent for $2000 with some work searching.

yea, your budget is reasonable, you have your pick of a lot of good places. Search thru the forum and all the usual suspects will emerge.
