I am claiming unemployment benefits for week ending 12/05/09 and 12/12/09 tomorrow on 12/15/09
My original date of claim was 11/15/09.
Today I found out I was getting 2 weeks severance pay on12/15/09. Do I tell unemployment about this when I file on internet for weeks with 12/15/09 in them. There is no question regarding severance pay only if I will be getting vacation or holiday pay. Should I say yes to vacation pay for this with the severance amount. I cannot get through to a live person on the telephone to ask them thank you

From reading below it seems to me that, no, severance pay doesn't affect your claim. (I think if severance payments matter, they would have included it in the questions, wouldn't they?)

This is the answer from the Dept of Labor website.
Department of Labor and Workforce Development | Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Should I wait until my severance pay ends to file a claim?

[i]A. No, because some severance/separation payments do not extend employment. You should file your claim after you stop working full-time. [b]Payments that do not extend employment include severance payments based on years of service with an employer.Mod cut: copyright violationI]

I received a severance check dated 12/15/09 for 2 weeks pay. I filed original claim 11/15/09 not knowing i would get this. how do I now tell unemployment I received this money when I claim unemployment benefits for the week with 12/15/09 in it. there is no question for severance pay, only vacation or holiday pay. I cannot get through to a live person, so i file on line.

Severance pay is NOT vacation pay, and you should not report severance as vacation pay.
You are fine. Read the answer on the page of that link over and over again.
I know people who reported severance pay on the original claim. They still got their UI for immediate weeks.
However sounds like you will not be happy until you got an official answer. Go to your local unemployment office and talk to a live person...if that makes you happy.

ok, i think i understand , i will not mention this severance pay the week of 12/15/09 because they dont ask this question when i file for benefits every 2 weeks. if there is a problem, i will show them the date on it is 12/15 after i filed in 11/16. Going there would be 8 hours of waiting. Thank you very much for your time and help and advice.
