LOL, and I prefer to bag my own because I like to put certain things in bags together.

Like it is somehow dirty or something I don't know, or with trucks or industrial.
Manalapan is now completely devoid of "small-town" feel.

Not sure why anyone would jump in this thread to knock this town. It's one of the best in NJ if you can afford it.

We find them very obedient and trainable with the exception of a few who can't seem to comprehend "Wait for the shake".
I find you very uppity Charles and I like that quality. I happen to have a position available you would be perfect for. You see I just had a regulation indoor soccer field installed in the left wing of my mansion and I'm looking for a replacement goalie that my Monmouth Co Gazillionaire friends can have a few cocktails and kick balls at. It would only be temporary, until my old goalie gets over his concussion. Think of it this way, it's extra money to spend at that Home Depot you people seem to Love so much.
Anywho, gotta run the Sulton of Brunei is on his way over.

Except us servants have much more class than you sultans. At least we know how to behave in public! And we can spell too.

i believe the anti-home depot sentiment is related to not wanting to attract do-it-yourselfer types to the neighborhood.

I'm not a big fan of the "small town" feel, personally. In these towns, everyone knows everyone else's business, cronyism is abound at town hall and the community is more often than not exceedingly clique-y. No thanks.
Give me a big suburb like Toms River, Brick, Cherry Hill, Edison, etc.

Exactly, BUT what is wrong with having do-it-yourself types in the neighborhoods? I come from a do-it-yourself family. Saying something is wrong with having DIYs in the neighborhood is a snobby idea.

Lakewood isn't that bad. I never thought of it as a shore town either since it isn't on the ocean. Apparently it is better now than it used to be since the Hasidics took it over so I give them a lot of credit for that.
Asbury Park IMO is a better example of what EBWick was saying. Any place with that city in it shouldn't be putting down any other place. To paraphrase, it is almost like a piece of Camden fell from the sky and landed on the beach.
For the record, Middlesex County does not have ANYTHING close to that. New Brunswick and Perth Amboy have nothing on AP in terms of danger and crime. I am in and out of the former all the time and have hung out there for many years, and my girlfriend gets her hair done in the latter all the time. FAR from bad.
I understand that AP is beginning to experience some gentrification like NB, but I still hear about drive-by shootings there all the time. They really have to focus on the crime rate dropping before most people can feel comfortable going there. And although NB does still have its sketchy parts, the city on the whole is definitely on the upswing.

do it yourselfers tend to smell bad. just kidding. i can definitely see where people would say its snobby. but its also people trying to maintain a certain character of a town. i think its fine as long as they dont actually treat those people poorly.
