Overall crime increased 22.6% and burglaries went up 37% from 2007 to 2008! Why does the Police Chief still have a job?

Why were the 2008 crime stats just released almost a year after the fact!

Mod cut

Why don't you actually look at the figures. The CRIME RATE has been dropping drastically over the years. It is up slightly, LIKE EVERYWHERE in the country. MAYBE the economy has something to do with it.

Total Major Crimes Crime Rate
Year 2008 2,657 27.9
2007 2,167 22.8
2006 2,075 21.9
1999 2,664 30.7
1998 2,957 35.3
1997 3,512 41.9
1996 3,317 40.7

Domestics are up. Maybe the Chief should put someone in everyone's living room.

Sounds like someone is looking for a job and needs to discredit someone.

Crime goes up one year so they police chief should be relieved? Real rational and intelligent thinking right there

People don't realize Tom's River has been a tiny powderkeg of crime. It's very working class, has a lot of jobless immigrants and has a heroin problem. It just so happens the current state of unemployment in Jersey and the country mixed with this has probably led to this.

Overall it's still not a bad town. I went there for spring break last year and walked the streets late night staggering drunk and had no problems. There just so happens to be a de facto underworld of crime people who are in touch with the working class know about. Lots of burglary and property crime. Type of place it's best to lock your doors after you park and make sure your doors are locked when you're away. Not too much violent crime. It's not like it's Newark or East Orange

I find it very troubling that overall crime and burglaries have increased in Toms River while in neighboring towns crime has gone down.

Yes the Police Chief's primary responsibility is to control crime and develop new tactics and strategies when crime goes up. I don't see anything new or innovative with the Toms River Police Department. So yes it may be time for a change.

By the way why are the crime stats on the Toms River Police Department for the year 2004? Hey Chief wake up!
