Hi everyone! I am a therapist who works in nursing homes, currently looking for my next job. I have an interesting offer on the table from a contract agency, for a nursing home needing 13 weeks of coverage to cover a maternity leave. As the title states, I would be driving from my home in Ocean City to Jackson 3x/week. I would normally never consider such a commute, however I would make more money in 3 days/week than I did working 5 in my last job, so I am VERY tempted.

My question is mainly for those familiar with central Jersey. GoogleMaps says it will take me an hour and 23 minutes. I do not know the exact location (the contract agencies won't tell you out of fear you'll negotiate with the nursing home directly). The google directions have me driving up the parkway to route 9 (don't know what exit, about 50-some miles to route 9, I am exit 30) then route 9 to 527/Whitesville Rd).

My question is, how bad is the parkway at rush hour up to maybe exit 80-90, and how bad is the traffic in and around Jackson itself? Is an hour and 23 minutes realistic, or would it in reality be much more than that?

Thanks everyone, and have a great Christmas!

I'm not familiar with that commute but it sounds like you are not leaving another job for this job AND it has a definitive end date PLUS you can make more in three days than you usually do I say GO FOR IT!! For the right price it's worth going a little bit out of your way for a while

No. I'm not leaving another job for it, and I would love 4 days a week off - thanks!!

Just curious if you are OT, PT, or SLP? I am an OT working in SNFs and am considering moving to Ocean county from Middlesex County.

I'm OT, too! I don't know where Middlesex County is, but I can tell you the traffic generally gets less the farther south you go...which is why I am now in Cape May County!

well, let's see, I'm at Exit 82 in Toms River (hence my name) and when I think of Jackson- I think of the outlets or Great Adventure- and that's an hour from here (but other parts of Jackson are closer- Great Adventure is about as far in Jackson as you could go- it's by 195) so I guess about an hour Plus whatever time it takes you to get to exit 82. The traffic isn't bad either way in the morning- but I only go down as far as the Power Plant in Lacey. If you get a more specific location- post again.

Thanks, that's very helpful, I didn't realize Jackson was that big! I will try to get a more specific area in Jackson tomorrow morning. It would probably take me an hour to get to exit 82.

I live in Toms River and I am the furthest point east of exit 82 as you can get and it only takes me 30 - 40 minutes to get to the Jackson outlets/Great Adventure. (exit82- you should try driving straight out 571 - Bay Ave.) So if I got off the Parkway at 82 and went west it would generally take no more than 30 mins. to Jackson Premium Outlets, but again, it depends where in Jackson.

I don't know what the traffic is like on the Parkway North to exit 82. The traffic reports at 6am for northbound Parkway up to 82 is usually clear unless there is an accident. The later it gets after 6 the more congestion you will have.

I don't think I'll be there at 6, more likely 7:30. Probably worse, but I am guessing (hoping) it's not as bad as when you get way up north in the 100's: you know, scary bad! I did once have a job where I drove from OC to Collingswood, up 42 practically to Philly every morning - it probably couldn't be any worse than that was, but I probably wouldn't want to do it if it was even that bad (30 minutes to go 5 miles kind of bad).

Okay, I was wrong, the guy did give me the address. It's called the Bartley Healthcare Center, and it's on Bartley Rd. in Jackson. Per google maps I take the Parkway to Lakewood Rd/Route 9, stay on that for 9 miles, then W. County Line Rd/Jackson Mills-Lakewood Rd for 4 miles. I'm still not sure which exot it is on the Parkway because Google maps seems to call it different things along the way but it seems to be about 60 miles on the parkway. It says an hour and 22 minutes. Does that sound realistic? Is route 9 bad in the mornings? Also, is this one of those exits where I can get off there but not back on to go south back home?
