In the grand scheme of things, all though I do feel for those losing their jobs, 500 for Merck considering the over all size of their work force is a drop in the bucket

With imaginary revenue? Our taxes and cost of living is sky high with a dwindling high paying job market. All that == Doomed.

They have known for almost a year the merger was coming by years end, anytime there is a merger this big it stands to reason the company taking over will do a work force reduction, some of it will be early retirements and through attrition, a dooms day scenario it does not make.
