Absolutely I was stupid not to read the manual for NJ; but I figured, how hard can it be? I have been driving for over ten years! But the questions they ask have to do with DUI or how many points you get for a certain violation.
Is it still required to take the written test if you move from another state? I had to in NJ, IN 92, and I had been driving since 1976. I passed , because I was warned to study.
Here, I just took an eye test, and exchanged licences, with alot of proper identification.

6. The whole excercise requires a planned 4 hoours study. 2.5 hours of peavceful reading of manual and rest of the time ofr taking the practice tests.

7. I did the above and passed the test right first time. Score 40 correct out of 41. The computer just stops and congratulates you once you have 40 right answers. I just completed the test yesterday and it took me all 2 hours start from my home till I returned. It ws on a week day. I preferred it that way as, I wanted to be there in less crowd. The office I went was to Edison MVA and all are very effecient guys there.

8. For vision, listen to the officer carefully. They wont repeat what they say and if you keep irritating them with questions it may not act`in your favour. Just do exactly what they ask you to do. The vision is a critical one and read all the letters on the 2nd line very quickly and accurately if you dont have any ey problems. The color blindness test is easy. Just mention the colors all dark and neatly visible ones.

9. International Driving Permit from India or other countries are not needed unless you are a short stay visitor who wants to drive say for a few days. For permanent residents including H1, you must have a valid Driving Licence that shows atleast 3 years of driving experience for you to skip the Road Test. This is not a rule, but a rule of thumb they follow. I did not have the road test. This saves a lot of time. Else, it is a big process.

Hope the above helps.

"Learn the Blood Alcohol Concentration facts thoroughly"

The above quote pretty much sums up the written part for the motorcycle test if anyone is interested in giving that one a shot.

Question Practise driving using Examination Permit

hi,

I am an immigrant with H1-B and do hold a valid driving license from India (not International Driving Permit). I had been to the Bayonne NJ DMV today and appeared for the Knowledge and Vision Test and passed both. The officer gave me an examination permit and told me that I wont be exempted from the road test (in some cases they do that if you have a driving license form your home country) and will have to appear for one in the next three months.
Though I know driving very well, I feel that I should practise at least for 2-3 weeks before I appear for the road test.

They have put a note on the examination permit saying "Not valid for Practise". When I checked the MVC website, it says that as part of the Adult Road program, one has to practise for three months post getting the examination permit and appear forthe road test (State of New Jersey - Motor Vehicle Commission).

Could any one please let me know whether I can practise based on the Examination Permit or what options are available to me for practicing driving.

I only had to take it once what I think helped me was the skip button ONLY answer the ones that you know for sure. SKIP the ones your not sure of they will come up at the end of the test if you havent answered enough questions then so through the skipped ones answer the ones that you think you know and skip the ones that you dont have a clue about once you answer enough questions right the test will stop and you will hopefully not have to answer the questions that you dont have a clue about. Good Luck.
