I like the Parkway for the most part (the entire thing) - barring rush hour or primetime shore traffic, of course...
I love 35 from Pt. Pleasant down to Seaside Hts... I go this way when I go to my friend's shore house on Ortley Beach
Probably my most favorite road is actually a combo of Ocean Dr. and Atlantic Ave. in the Atlanttic City - Ocean City area...
When heading down, I take the ACE, then go south on Atlantic... From the casinos you get into Chelsea, the older, wealthier section of AC, then into Ventnor with the beautiful old homes that are so typical "shore" homes from decades ago, then into Margate and to Lucy the Elephant...
then you jog off Atlantic and go a couple blocks to the JFK bridge which puts you onto Ocean Dr, you drive along marsh and ocean, then the Ocean Dr. bridge into Ocean City is so low to the water you feel like you're driving on the ocean's surface! This whole drive is so amazing on a beautiful day, with the sunroof open, salt air pouring into the car...
Going the other direction is awesome, too. Usually at night, you get dressed for a night out, start driving up and it's a beautiful lit street, you see the same homes in the man-made lighting and they look good - everything in Ventnor seems so neat and groomed. You drive towards the glow of the neon and next thing you know it's almost like you drove onto the Vegas Strip (or onto Koval Rd. behind the casinos of the Vegas Strip). Park and hop out and have a blast.
The best thing is that this drive is only about 20 minutes and it's light after light but they are synchronized, and the road is perfectly flat and straight so you can just cruise slowly along very easily.
Yeah, that's my favorite drive in Jersey.
