I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and am looking at a job in Wayne, NJ. Assuming by car, how long would this commute take in the mornings and evenings? While I understand there may be accidents, etc. that throw things out of whack, is this something that generally could be done in under an hour?

never will happen. traffic on route 3 to wayne is horrible. plus you have to fight nyc traffic and tunnel. either move to nj or keep working in nyc

Your joking right??? It's going to take you an hour to get out of the city, forget about getting to Wayne.

I have one of the "crazy commutes" that make people raise their eyebrows and even I think your crazy for even considering this idea.

But Wayne is a lovely town, perhaps you should just move and then you will only need to drive to the city on the weekends.

I commuted from the West Side to Little Falls for four years. I left early (6:30AM) and it took me 25 minutes to get to work. Coming home I quickly learned that going through a tunnel was a recipe for disaster. Going up Route 46 and to the GW bridge was FINE. I was home in 35 minutes.

I doubt you can do that in a car, too much congestion on I-80 / 46 and 3. You can take NJT, The Montclair-Boonton line stops in Wayne, the station also has a Bus terminal. You get that Train @ Hoboken Terminal. It will probably take 45mins once ur on there.

I've done it in a car. Not a big deal. See my post above.

That's not a bad commute as far as commutes go. After a few tries you'll find the tricks that make it work for you, such as taking US46 vs I-95 which bypasses the traffic from I-80, etc.

Some days it takes 30 - 45 minutes to get from Kearny (between Jersey City and Newark) to get to Wayne in the mornings. It's.....iffy.
