I saw this in the Star Ledger yesterday- - Only 1- republican voted Yay
- - Id like to see this become a more progressive state- - What are people afraid of?- Are gays all over the country going to come into your neighborhood?? - Teach your children well, and let others be- geez- it 2010 for cripesake- can we get over this already. This country has much more serious issues on the table than same sex marriage (IMO)

Separation of church and state (in this case NJ) is not about keeping Christmas trees out of firehouses. It is about the state favoring one religion over another or someone without religious beliefs. Not allowing gay people to get married by a NJ state official is akin to just that. As marylee54 said, if a religion doesn't want that in their church or synagogue, that is fine. That being said, that church or synagogue shouldn't get money from the NJ taxpayers in the form of tax exemption either.
with the high divorce rates, why are gays always rushing to get married? I think comedian greg giraldo put it best when he said "so let me get this straight- gays can't get married, and they can't join the military. Hell, throw in an exemption from jury duty, and i'll start going after guys tomorrow!"

Keep in mind, NJ very much IS a progressive state...probably the most progressive.
I VERY much agree with that. Regardless of whether they give a thumbs up or down...regardless of which side of the aisle they sit, they're paid to be informed about the issues, show up and vote..
Not present is not an option
The Star ledger had 2 people who would not be voting, one was on medical leave and the other was being sworn in as mayor of camden . but I don't know about the other 2
It's not going to happen because it's a big loser for any politician who tries to push it through. Even in uber liberal states (CA for example) only 50% of the people approve it. And we all know it's about reelection.
The fact remains is this...NJ has only postponed the inevitable. If states like Iowa, Vermont and New Hampshire can legalize gay marriage, NJ certainly will. It may take 5 more years but it will happen. In my opinion the opposition to gay rights now may be viewed in the same light that we today view those who oppossed civil rights in the 1940's. They will be viewed only as men or women of their day and not enlightened thinkers. Eventually, one way or the other, New Jersey will approve of gay marriage. You cannot ignore the overall trend towards more acceptance of homosexuality in our society. If you still believe in postponing gay marriage in NJ, fine but history may not judge you too well. However, if you want to prevent gay marriage from ever occurring...you are fighting for a lost cause. The inevitable is that the northeast, pacific states and parts of the midwest will eventually legalize gay marriage in the next 20 years. (Maybe the federal government will step in and pressure the rest of the states to go along in 50 years or so...like how they got the rest of the states to raise the drinking age...but this is too far into the future to be predicted). Hence, trying to stop gay marriage from ever occurring in NJ is fruitless.
I could swore I posted this, but I cannot find it, or it was deleted, and they forgot to tell me.......... so I am posting it again, because we are not in Russia, and EVERYONE has the right to their own opinion in AMERICA...................if their opinions are valid.
Anyway, I know lots of people are not going to agree with my thoughts and opinions, and that is okay, but they are important to me, so I am going to stated them again.
I have no qualms given gays/lesbians their right to marry, because many lesbians make great parents, if it is placed on the ballot for me to make that decision. I do, however, have a problem with the adoption process of children, once the bill is passed, if it happens four years' from now.
