Montclair is also probably the restaurant capital of Essex County. There are trendy restaurants serving up every type of fare imaginable on and near Bloomfield Avenue.
Millburn also has a lot of restaurants and a popular playhouse.
If you want a Portuguese dining experience (highly recommended) go to the Ironbound section of Newark.
Go hiking at South Mountain Reservation and see the cherry blossoms at Branch Brook Park (greater in number and variety than those in DC)

And if your're really feeling carnivorous try Brasilian Bar-B-Q (I'd recommend Brasilia Restaurante on Ferry St) in the Ironbound. The waiters continue carving a variety of meats onto your plate until you cry No Mas!

Any recommendations for Montclair and/or Millburn?

For restaurants? I know more about Montclair than Millburn.
There's a restaurant (or more) for just about each ethnic cuisine you can imagine.
On Bloomfield Ave:
Tuptim is probably the best Thai in town. Thai Chef is not so good IMO, but it gets great reviews, so maybe it's just me.
Nori Sushi is good and there are other sushi places on the street.
Mesob is a very good Ethiopian restaurant
Cuban Pete's is allegedly very good but i haven't been yet.
Aozola is an excellent Italian place (good place for a date, IMO)
Raymonds on nearby Church Street is great for weekend brunch
Also there are French, Greek, Mexican, Turkish, a new Argentinian steak place
There are 3 Indian restaurants, all of which are good, but if you want REALLY good (authentic) Indian you're better off going to Newark Ave in Jersey City or Oak Tree Road in Edison.
There are a few good places in Montclair's second downtown called "Upper Montclair" also. There's a good looking Italian place on Valley Road there that I want to try.
And good news, with warm weather finally arriving, the al fresco dining season will be commencing soon!
More good news, most restaurants in Montclair are BYOB, so pick up a bottle of wine on the way. This is good b/c you can buy a cheaper bottle than what a restaurant would normally offer.

Just bumping this, as I am visiting NJ (will be staying in Essex) this summer, and trying to get as many ideas/suggestions as I can.
