In terms of safety, comfort, property value, convenience, etc., how is the area (the very last block or so) along the west "border" of downtown JC right next to the elevated highway?
I've searched and read many many JC related threads here on city-data, but most discussions pertain to downtown vs. non-downtown JC vs. non-JC areas. I've asked around and have gotten mixed opinions on that particular section of downtown JC.
I've also been to the area several times during all hours of the day- I even walked all the way from Grove Street PATH down Newark Ave to the highway and back in the evening the other day... my only conclusions from the experience were quiet, cold and dimly-lit.
Any and all opinions (and facts, of course) are much appreciated! Thanks.
The section East of the Jersey City Skyway is the safest part of Jersey City and most Modern. The Area West is in redevelopment and slightly unsafe. The area the borders Bayonne is the most dangerous part of Jersey City, but that doesn''t mean Bayonne is bad. For Some reason in New Jersey crime doesn't cross Highway , Railway , Waterway and hill barriers. I have some pictures form above and below the Skyway.

Area West of the Skyway , (Five Corners)due note that this was a Sunday so this part of the city is mostly closed down, like most of NJ.

During the Daytime the City is safe , at Night time i would stay East of the Skyway if your unfamiliar the city.

The Skyway is the Last mile of of I-78, the Eastbound is higher then Westbound, with a Max difference of 2 Stories. The Total skyway is 1.6 miles , but the highest parts are a half mile long. Its an Ext of the NJTPK system.
The area that your talking about is relatively safe and somewhat isolated. I used to frequent the Hamilton Ale House which is in that location. Many POs frequent that area. Good luck JM.

It sounds to me as if you are confusing the elevated portion of the Turnpike with The Pulaski Skyway. The Pulaski Skyway is not part of the Turnpike system.
The Pulaski Skyway in Jersey City is no higher then 1 story except crossing the Hackensack where its about 3-5 stories high. The Jersey City Skyway is different, its not an official name , but me and few other people like to call it that , since it soars above the city streets.

Maximum 3-5 stories high? You should drive over there and take a good, long look at that structure. I think that it is easily higher than a 10-story house, but I will bet any amount of money that you want to lose that it is higher than 5 stories high.
I just took a look at Wikipedia, which states that it rises to a height of 135 feet over the river. In residential properties, each story eats up about 10 feet, so at its apex the Skyway is between 13 and 14 stories high. Pulaski Skyway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
