I know three people (2 associates and 1 family) in the NJ school system that are all over 100k a year. The rest (including my sister) are all over 60k.
That sounds like more of an exception than the rule. I know two people (in different suburban north Jersey school districts) that have both been teaching for 10 years with a masters and they make less than 50k. I know someone else that has been teaching for almost 20 years and makes less than 70k.
I know that's what you want to beleive. It makes sense to believe that.
The only people not taking cuts in this economic climate are the pigs feeding at the government trough. Why the hell do you think taxes are so high here?, The people riding in the canoe have a better deal than the ones paddling.
You're right. I actually feel bad sometimes that I get 5% raises every year when there are people out there really hurting. If I had a choice, I wouldn't be part of my union. I love what I do, but I realize that I make and will continue to make a very good living considering the amout of days I actually work. Every teacher is going to tell you he/she works incredibly hard and we do, believe me, but I'll tell you what 99% of other teachers won't tell you, and that's that we have it pretty darn good.
My salary is not the exception. I have 15 credits plus a masters, so maybe I make 5k to 7K more than some, but I'm pretty much inline with all of my other colleagues.

Are you sure you really know what they're making. That is so incredibly low. Do they work for Catholic schools?

I looked up their salaries on that website so I'm not just guessing about what they make. It says about 48k for both of them. These are friends of mine so I know they have a Masters and have been teaching about 10 years. They work for public high schools in Union and Somerset counties.

Well my salary was shown to be 10k less than what it really is on that website, so that may be the case with your two friends.

You say "about." Believe me we all know exactly what we make and how much NJEA takes for that matter.
