Hello, I'm contemplating a move to work in NYC and wanted to get input on Union City and Weehawken. The office is located in Chelsea. I want something that's a relatively easy commute, but I can still keep a car and have some green space. I'm a single woman and safety is another issue. I can afford up to $2500 rent. Are Union City and Weehawken good bets? Anyone know the Doric? I've seen some posts for that place. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Try Bergen County somewhere. Union City and Weehawken are way too cramped and dense to be able to have a manageable drive around town and have green space.

They both have the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail running and stopping in them, and then you take that to Hoboken Terminal and take the PATH into NYC. You don't are car in most of the NJ Gold Coast or any part of Urban Jersey , the Bus and Rail Networks are excellent.

Don't know too much about it other than it is a coop and is kind of in the middle of nowhere. You can take a evelvator down the hill to Hoboken, it doesn't look very safe.

HUH^ each Light Rail station is placed at a high density point, yes the Elevator is Safe , if you don't like it. You can climb the stairs.

I don't mean form a stability sense, I meant from a crime sense. It seems rather isolated. I wouldn't want my wife using it late at night.

Its safe , i never been on the Light Rail @ night , but i have friends and family that live all over the NJ Gold Coast. You just need to be smart , not false your high tech gadgets and look like ur rich. Otherwise you'll be fine , The NJ Gold Coast isn't like some parts of NYC or LA at night.

Yeah, I live in Hoboken have some idea about the "gold coast", I have lived on the "gold coast" for 25 years when the term was first applied to the JC/Hoboken waterfront. That area by the light rail is definatley sketchy.

Live in JCH and used the light rail in the early morning and its relatively safe. Just like the poster said, be aware just as you would anywhere during the night and you will be fine.
