Hi, I am from Monmouth County and thinking of moving down to South Jersey to the Mount Laurel area. I would be a first time home buyer and I am a 58 year old female. I may go into one of those senior places but maybe not.
Would anyone have any sound advice about which condo/townhouse complexes might be good (and safe) and which ones to stay away from? I don't really mind being around kids, but I certainly don't feel like being surrounded either. Does anyone know anything about Cinniminson? How about Laurel Place or Laurel Creek? What are those places like? Any help would surely be appreciated especially from someone who has lived in the area for a very long time. Thanks.

Mount Laurel is a great town, also take a look at Cherry Hill, Cinniminson is also a good choice. What is your price range?

I live in Mount Laurel. Most of Mount Laurel is very nice; I would stick to Larchmont/Hartford area (either Laurel Creek or Laurel Place is on Larchmont, but I never remember which is which). If you're looking at 55+, you could go with Renaissance Place, which is a small development and generally pretty quiet.
Ramblewood, Holiday Village (55+), and Birchfield are some of the bigger neighborhoods on the other side of Mt. Laurel. The only reason I don't necessarily recommend them is because they are near Rt. 73, which can be difficult with traffic. Otherwise, they are also nice, and the advantage is that you are close to the NJ Turnpike.
Mt. Laurel is also close enough to everything, but far enough from Philly/Camden that you don't generally have too many issues. Crimewise, there have been issues with breaking into cars, especially in the more upscale shopping centers. There is also the occasional daytime break-in in my neighborhood, since most of the people that live here are professionals, but it doesn't happen often, and it never happens to anyone with an alarm system.
I'd also consider:
* Cherry Hill (higher taxes, but more $$$ for your buck)
* Cinnaminson
* Delran
* Marlton/Evesham
* Medford
* Burlington Township

If you are looking for a 55+ community that has lots of activities, you could go with Leisuretown in Southampton or Medford Leas. Leisuretown is a large community with lots of homes, but it's a little farther from civilization, if you know what I mean.

I currently live in Birchfield which is a nice development. All of my neighbors are very quiet and there are a mix of seniors, middle-aged, and young professionals. It is only 5min away from 295 and the NJTP and very close to Moorestown Mall area. It is pretty easy to avoid Route 73 traffic using the side streets.
