Where would the best place to live be for a, say, 22-23 year old single teacher, within 30-45 minutes to New York City? Also, with lower crime and not a shabby part of town. Keep in mind the teacher's salary. I don't care about the size of the town/city, obviously, because i'd probably just go up to NYC for my social/entertainment/shopping/whatever needs.

I'm just curious for future reference. It seems to be my dream to live in North Jersey within driving distance of NYC. I have family in Morgansville who just love it up there.

30-45 minutes from NYC, on a teacher's salary? I hope you don't mind roommates.

You could find something in the upper part of Weehawken (ie on top of the Palisade, not the waterfront townhouses). Very close, very safe. Parking might be a bit of a challenge but it's doable.
