Being originally from Philly and now residing in Collingswood (family lives in Washington TWP), we def had our fair share of using the Jersey Shore as a vacation destination. Wildwood, of course.. lol
One year, my Dad decided to take us to Disney World. After the trip, he realized that we spent similar (a little more) than what we would normally spend in a week down Wildwood, or Ocean City. After that, we haven't been back.. LOL
I personally think the shore is great for OTHER people not from around the area. I also think it's great for an all day trip -- maybe -- an overnight stay.
Am I a minority in thinking like this? I think it's great that we have something as nice as the Jersey Shore (except Wildwood, eww!), but I guess when something is so common.. it's not that big of a deal.
So tell me, how many people here spend their summer vacations at the Jersey shore instead of a real destination?? LOL

Spent many summers at the shore, before it was so built up and the traffic became so congested. The cost of a rental is ridiculous and you can't count on the weather being nice. For the price of a week or two at the shore there are a lot nicer destinations to vacation.

Really? But why not explorer other places? Have you ever been to some of the shores? Like Virgina beach? Mrytle Beach? Ocean City MD?
I'm more curious as to the people who only see Wildwood as such a fantastic place. With a hotel room and cost of food and attractions, that's easily a $1500+ week!
I spent $1100 on an all inclusive vacation in Punta Cana and that was for 7 day..and it included everything!

Years ago the shore was great..I lived near the ocean in ocean county last 40 years..but its seems to be getting more expensive and trouble all over. Yes I decided to visit other places due to this in the summer since the cost is only a little more overall and rather see new places now as I age.

All the people I know (from South Jersey, most North Jersey people I know haven't been to the beach south of Sea Side with the exception of a the one time they went to Cape May when they were 4 and A.C. tend to dislike Jersey Beaches) who have been to places like Ocean City, MD found it very disapointing, and like the Jersey Shore a LOT more. They said it was cleaner, closer, and much more quite.
On that note
I've never been on a vacation, but I do spend every other weekend in Ocean City, Sea Isle, and Strathmere.
