With that much stuff you can probably get by with renting a Uhaul van, which isn't as bad to drive as a truck. Any time you involve other people it will cost you some $$$
Check Enterprise online and see if they rent panel vans anywhere near you. These are the big, full size business vans. I used one for a move once and it was wonderful. The day rate is higher than Uhaul -- $50-60 or so -- but you get unlimited or very generous mileage.
You have to search for areas you can get to for the best deal. I was just on the Enterprise site and in New Jersey, you only get 20 free miles but if you rent in Hartford, CT, it $90 a day and unlimited mileage. So play with places you can get to for the best deal on where to pick it up/drop it off. Since you're moving to CT, it might be best to pick it up/drop off there.
With Uhaul and similar, it's the mileage that's the killer.
Some car rental companies also rent pickup trucks. Again, with free mileage. You may have to make two trips, but the overall cost will be much less.
