as for the original question, some people in nj are lame and others are cool, just like in any other state. what really cracks me up is when people from places like long island make fun of nj, when the stereotypical long islander would be virtually indistinguishable from the stereotypical new jersey person to just about anyone from outside of the tri-state area.
I see a huge difference between Jersey and Long Island people. A good number of my clients are in Roslyn, Mineola, Dix Hills, and Commack, and honestly I think they are about 10 times more obnoxious than Jersey residents. They are also HORRIBLE drivers, but it's not like we are saints behind the weel. They don't get the concept of taking turns while merging (same goes for Pennsylvania drivers).

True! I grew up on LI now live in Jersey and can honestly tell you NJ is long island 20 years ago!!

i think it's easy for us to see the differences between LI and NJ, but i would bet if you asked someone from the midwest or the south they would lump us all together. probably similar to how we might not see a big difference between people from north and south carolina, while i imagine they think there's a big difference.
