Now I feel bad bi**ching about my town that just doubled my house assessment from $116k to $226k (real value to me is $189k)..so my RE taxes went to $3860 per year..seems low I guess compared to others (in Ocean County)....I could never pay $14k in taxes..noway never! House is a cape cod about 27 years old on one acre.

no, you need to educate yourself before you give yourself a stroke. from your own town's website:

http://www.harrisontwp.us/Announceme...ASSESSMENT.pdf

the tax rate for your town has not BEEN RELEASED. you're going on last year's rate which is NOT VALID after a reassessment. they predict the rate will DROP to 2.50, but that's not set in stone.

during a reassessment, the amount of $$$ brought in DOES NOT CHANGE. approximately 1/3 go down, 1/3 rise, 1/3 stay the same.

Quite of few towns did new asssessments, my town did it and was over 100% more in value now the new assessment (RE tax double now). Was $116,000 now $236,000. And yes all complained here too..but they were correct the town.

Reason for this some towns let it go for years 'no updated assessments" and the true value wasn't given over that time. Now since all are in need of funds (my town they have to do it every year now for most homes) think the state had something to do with this updated value's.

But then again for 15 years in a row never had one and the RE tax only went up a few dollars each year.

PLEASE!!!! Stop spreading false information! If the town's budget is $1M before an assessment, guess what it is after? $1M!!!!!!! An assessment ONLY distributes the SAME MONEY more equitably!!!

You do not have your new tax bill, you have your new assessment. The tax rate has not been released yet. It is projected to be 2.50. Please please listen and learn.

ok. you paid 2010 first and second, but you DO NOT HAVE THE RATE for 3rd and 4th! that comes with your NEW tax bill, sometime in July! the calendar is 3rd/4th of this year, and 1st/2nd of next year. FISCAL YEAR.

THE TOWN DOES NOT COLLECT MORE MONEY OVERALL ON A REASSESSMENT! PERIOD!
