Will start to work in MP on Monday the 19th. Looking for an Extended Stay or short term lease on a studio or a flat for one person for 3 months or maybe longer if the contract extends. I want to spend less than 1,000 per month. From what I see, it looks like it is going to be in the 1,000 plus range but I really need it to be lower. Is going west on I 80 going to help? What is Budd Lake like? How long would it take to get to Morris Plains from there or Hackettstown? I am willing to drive an hour each way to and from....or a bus or train.....

Budd Lake is a fairly blue collar area of western Morris County. Certainly not a bad area at all. Though some of the apartment complexes there have really gone downhill over the last ten years or so. Although it's not too far from Morris Plains in a mileage sense, it's a pretty vicious commute. Depending on what time you are traveling, it could take around an hour, obviously more if there is an "incident". Routes 80 and 10 are an absolute zoo from about 6 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 7 pm. Non traffic hours, it should take more than 25 minutes.
Also realize the farther west you get, the more blue collar you get... I'm not sure apartments out there are going to be as open to short term leases and you probably won't find as many furnished apartments out that way. It's going to be a challenge to find a short term lease with furniture for under $1,000. In South Jersey, I had to go with a 1 year lease to get down to $910 ($700 rent + $210 for furniture)... month by month was upwards of $1500 or more... and South Jersey is typically cheaper than North.
I believe there is an Extended Stay America or something along those lines in the Crossings out in Budd Lake, but the commute to MP can be a nightmare.
Most if not all apt complexes in North jersey require a 1 year lease, maybe check Carigs list to see if anyone has a room to rent
