FYI, deer can swim much further than the 5 miles or so from JC to Brooklyn. It's not the distance that amazed me, but the fact that the deer swam against those fierce currents. As a boater in the NY harbor, I can tell you that the currents are very strong.

From 1999 to 2001, I saw seals more than once a few miles south of this point, just off of Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne.
