What towns in new jersey are gay friendly in the sense that they are not too uppity, yet not crime-infested either. Something with a city-feel (ex ridgewood, montclair) and good schools?

Lambertville in Hunterdon county. High population of gay people, great walkable downtown area with lots of good restaurants, art galleries, antique shops. Many of the homes are from the Victorian era and some even older than that. Beautiful but heavy traffic on the weekends. Lots of apartments too. Just across the bridge New Hope, PA also has a large gay population and they used to have some great clubs. They also have excellent restaurants.

How gay friendly would you think the following towns are (omitting the obvious)
Sparta
Millburn
Madison
Ocean Grove
Edgewater

Not sure about the others (just don't know, and I thought Ocean Grove was some kind of predominantly-religious community) but Edgewater, definitely. It's right on the Hudson, across from the city.

It is religious but it has a large gay community. Kids would go to the Neptune Twp. schools though, which are not the best.

FYI Maywood is not gay friendly - I have heard of beatings and harassment from several people who went to the school and no, they were not in any way flamers just kids and two weren't even gay.

FYI sorry but none of these towns/cities are really gay friendly, diverse and mostly a bit "run down" to say the least.
