I'm trying to help a friend of mine find a better home in NJ. They currently live in Islen, have a dog, three kids (two in college, the other is 16). They are looking into moving and wondering what areas they should look into.

You mean they live in Iselin? I would look along the NE Corridor train line. It runs from Trenton to Newark/NYC.

Yes, they currently live in Iselin. I'm not sure of their current budget, but I do know that they can't wait to get out of there.

It may be best for them to identify what they don't like about Iselin and what they are looking for in the new community.

I'll give them something to start with. They have two young adults in college and a third one possibly headed there in the Fall 2012. Are they looking for a multi-bedroom house or will they want a smaller townhouse or stand-alone house where the kids can crash from time-to-time?

Second issue to consider is the schooling of the 16-year-old. Just diving for any place to get away from where they live now is not in the best interest of the child still at home. They do need to at least take time to think about the final year or year-and-half of high school ... Issues like what types of courses still needs to be completed, are AP courses available in the new school district, and what the requirements are for graduation need to be taken into account.

As tom1944 mentioned, they should start along the NE Corridor and see what may be available.
