The founders of the proposed in downtown Flemington are celebrating the achievement of a key milestone.
The school’s Board of Trustees had set a target for enrollment applications that needed to be met by April 16 if the school was to continue moving forward with its plans to open in the fall. Thanks to strong support from the community, that goal has been met and the school’s plans to open remain well on track, the group said in a press release.
Earlier this month, there was concern that the number of in-district enrollment applications might not be sufficient to open the school in the fall. According to Rosemary King, dean of instruction for Trillium, the number of enrollment applications they had received was very encouraging, but had not yet reached the level needed. They did not state the number
The trustees decided to make a renewed effort to inform the community about the school.
According to King, the results from this effort have been very successful. “We’re very happy to say that we have met the recruiting goal we set for April 16th. We asked the community for help and support and they absolutely rallied around the school. While we still have work to do, we are confident we can meet both the enrollment and fundraising targets required to remodel our facility in downtown Flemington and to open the school as planned.
When asked why he submitted an enrollment application for his daughter, Eric Liszt explained. “I moved to Hunterdon County because of the school system’s excellent reputation. That said, I see charter schools like Trillium as having the ability to provide my child an extra edge. Trillium will have smaller class sizes of 16 students per class. They will be using innovative teaching methods that focus on providing students with a real understanding of the material as opposed to simply teaching to a standardized test. They will also give me an opportunity to become more involved in my daughter’s education and therefore her long term success.”
The school organizers will hold additional information meetings on April 29 and May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Hunterdon County Library on Route 12 in Raritan Township.
Key school faculty members will lead an informal discussion and answer questions from parents. For more information, go to school.TrilliumEducation.org, email info@TrilliumEducation.org or call the information hotline at 908-824-0042

Is providing information in a public forum about a free public school that is opening in Flemington self promotion? I am just trying to inform the public of an alternative that is being offered to the current public school system. The Trillium Charter School is a Free and Public School open to anyone within its sending districts. Feel free to speak with Key Board Members May 19 and May 27 from 7pm - 9pm at the Hunterdon Co. Public Library on Rt. 12 in Flemington to learn more.
