Next month, I am going to watch a concert at The Prudential Center. I'm traveling by train and getting off at Newark Penn. The concert starts at 7:30PM and may end at around 10:00PM. Is it safe to walk from the train station to the venue, and back, at those times?

Don't jaywalk(not because of getting a ticket) and you'll be alright. There's a skywalk between Penn Station and Mulberry St. that drops you off across the street from the arena; has some eateries inside.

Yes, the prudential centers very existance has led to that square 'block' little area between the ironbound and downtown very safe. It used to be edgy when I was a kid back in the 90's, very safe now. Definitely a huge police presence. You may encounter bums looking for money at penn station though, so dont pull out cash out outside of the train station (only there, thats where they hang out), you wont be robbed but you will be annoyed, and if you give to one ten more come up to you, its sad but true. Also, if you smoke, dont pull out your pack in front of them either lol.

It's a perfectly valid question if someone has never been before and only knows Newark from news reports...

To o/p that area is as safe as it could possibly be, lots of police presence. Go & enjoy
