It's about a half hour local ride. During peak office hours I might be enticed to take back roads but only if US1 is slow. there are a number of alternatives all depending on where you start from. You don't have to take US1 but just cross it. probably try various options and go for the easiest based on your experience. Get back with more specifics if you want further suggestions but just go to any map site and see what your options are.
Something like this for starters, although you can put in your start and end locations yourself:

Depending on exactly where in each town you are coming / going to, it may even be less than 1/2 hour.

Also depends on exactly what time of day that you're driving. At certain times US1 can be a parking lot.

Pennington has almost no public transportation. I think there's one bus that heads to Trenton.

Yup, that's the #602 bus. (If anybody's curious, to get from Plainsboro to Pennington by mass transit, you'd have to take the #600 to Trenton for the #602 to Pennington). Probably around a 2 hour commute or so.

According to NJ Transit there's no public transportation within a mile of Merrill Lynch Drive.

So, you'll be stuck driving. At least if you live fairly close it won't be a bad commute.

For future reference, in case anybody does need to make this commute by public transportation, I did find one shuttle that goes from the BOA/Merrill Lynch campus to the Hamilton NJT station: Bank of America/Merrill Lynch Bus Service | Greater Mercer TMA

So for this particular commute, that would require you to take the 600 to Princeton Junction, the NJT NEC Line one stop to Hamilton, and then the shuttle.

In that case, the commute from Princeton Junction (once you're on the train) should be around 30-35 minutes, assuming no traffic. (Then of course, you would have to factor in the time it takes to get to Princeton Junction, plus the connection time).
