She is looking at Vineland area. She is not going to find overpriced homes, nor high property taxes in Cumberland County. I hate when someone says they want to come here and people come on saying "it's horrible here, don't come".
Exactly. South Jersey is very affordable. I also hate it when people do that, too, especially when it's someone who tells people "don't come here, it's horrible" but is obvioiusly lying because he himself chooses to stay here after living here for decades, for most of his life.
It's just a rude thing to do to a person, not to mention calling someone's husband "stupid".
I just noticed it didn't say Cumberland - wonder why they included Salem but not Cumberland? In any case, I don't think it matters, it's still populated by south Jersey people and there are several shore threads on there.
I am planning a trip to jersey with my husband this summer and we're going to be in Atlantic City. I eventually want to move here, and my husband has the stupid typical stereotype about the state. I want to show him all the good things Jersey has to offer, mainly in the southern part of the state. What would be some places to go or things to do to show jersey is not an "Industrial Wasteland" as he puts it?
A little note- he loves beaches, nature and pizza!
thanks in advance!
There is plenty in that area - south jersey - for you and your b/f to see and for him to see the beauty of the state.
Atlantic City itself is not beautiful apart from the casinos/boardwalk/beach, but the area around it is. Drive south from AC on Atlantic ave. to Ventnor and Margate to see some beautiful towns with amazingly beautiful homes and neighborhoods.
Near Vineland are a lot of beautiful places in terms of towns/neighborhoods and natural beauty. The Pinelands have many trails you can explore. Hammonton is a blueberry growing area, there are also cranberry bogs in that area.
I see you mentioned that you and he are planning to work in AC at the casinos - just so you know, casinos are notorious for not paying very well, so be aware. I don't know what kind of job you're each going for, but you may know better what to expect; it's just that I've heard and seen where they pay as little as they can get away with to most of their employees.
Casinos don't pay as much as they used to due to less demand and less competition (now that Harrah's owns half the town) however it is still one of the very few industries where you can work your way from bottom to top. I worked in a casino for a few years when going to school, and a good percentage of even executive level managers started out bussing tables or something like that.
Love the Sugar Hill Inn suggestion. Actually, the Mays Landing area is an affordable, safe area close to AC. You may want to check it out as a place to live. As for a beautiful, natural beach I would suggest Island Beach State Park. It is a state run park - exit 82 from the Garden State Parkway (about an hour from AC). Pizza at the Sawmill on the boards in Seaside is good after a day a IBSP. (Seaside is an interesting boardwalk - mix of nice families who are locals and the jersey shore types and day-trippers).
Take him to Cape May, recently voted one of the prettiest towns in America.

Completely agree. They have various wildlife sanctuaries as well as world-renown bird watching. Also - some of the best restaurants in the state, and the beaches are pristine. I think that Cape may will change your husband's skewed perception drastically. Best of luck, and ENJOY!

He's a massage therapist and Im a Cosmetologist, so we'd be looking more into spas around there, although the same is probably true with them as well
Definitely don't take him to Atlantic City if you want him to like the state. lol! AC is a dump.
Like someone said, Cape May is beautiful, Heightstown, Freehold~ Red Bank, Brick, are also nice areas, but not as far south, they're exit 105 to 90 (off the Garden State Parkway).
