I am wondering why in NJ there is not a Dave & Busters. I know that the nearest one is in Time Square in Manhattan, NY. Is there a place in Nothern Jersey like Dave & Busters?
For those who don't know what I am talking about...just go to Dave & Busters :: Home Page

Thanks for your inputs.

Yes Still there.

Also, by the Meadowlands, they are in the process of building Xanadu which is supposed to be a HUGE complex with shopping and other entertainment (Dave & Busters) like....don't think it's going to be completed until next year or the year after.

My daughter's wedding was there last summer. We had a blast. Don't know why there is not one in NJ. Guess they didn't get to it yet. The Manhattan location is relatively new.

I heard that the reason NJ does not have a D & B's is due to the liquor license. Afterall this is a fun game place that attracts both adults and minors, therefore NJ officials must think it's not approprate to open such a place in our state where the drinks flow. If they are putting one at Xanadu, some sort of special arrangements must have been made.

I think you're on the right track, thought I doubt it's a conscious effort to curtail fun times. We are the state that has Seaside Heights, after all.

Under current laws, liquor licenses are dependent on municipal population, so a town can only sell a limited number of licenses. And unlike most states, where liquor licenses are just that - a license - New Jersey allows them to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Ironically, this would benefit large companies like Dave & Busters that can afford a $600,000 liquor license while punishing small business owners who cannot.

Back on the main topic, I've been to the D&B's at Penn's Landing in Philly and it's a pretty fun place. I'm sure that some larger town in New Jersey would have the right combination of zoning and an available license that would work for them.
