Hi,

I am moving out from NY and was thinking to purchase an apartment in a
"not-high-crime area" in or near Jersey City,

I know that in JC some areas are to avoid,

Now my budget is limited, I ve only 60K but I still would like to see what I can buy for example in a "up and coming area"

Can anyone tell me an area in JC that "is not that bad" or where I can find price of an apartment lower than the a luxury area?

thanks

60K as a down payment or total price???
60K as down payment is nice as total purchase price I can't think of anywhere in JC you could buy apartment for $60K

You also have same posts for Philadelphia & FT Lauderdale, have you ruled them out or just researching different areas

Just searching different areas to hear feed back from people that actually reside in the areas,

You didn't answer Kate's other question. 60K towards down payment (and closing costs?) or 60K total?

You cannot even buy a 1br condo for 60k here. Even if you lived in the heart of the ghetto, you would still be paying at least 130k for a 1 br condo facing a brick wall. The prices are ridiculous here. I am from here and I can tell you, that if by some miracle you find something for 60k..run away because that means that it is not habitable and your first tenants already live there (rats, roaches, crackheads, etc.) You can find a nice apt. though. I would say save up until you can get something livable.
