I have a ton of good used household items I want to donate-I know there is a Goodwill in Bayville but I might have to make several trips and in summer traffic that's a miserable drive down Rt 9. Is there some organization closer that I can bring stuff too?

How about joining your local Freecycle group and offering it all there? You can give items to local people, who come to you to pick things up. (at your convenience) Freecycle's an international organization (registered 501 (c) 3) non profit who's mission is to keep still useful items out of the landfill. You'll be getting rid of stuff you no longer need, and not have to travel to do so! The Ocean County group can be found at:
OCNJFreecycle : Ocean County New Jersey Freecycle(TM)

For those of you not in Ocean County, you can find your local group by visiting The Freecycle Network

It is so easy, From the comfort of my home, I send an email to the group listing the items I wish to give to some one, wait a bit to collect the email responses, select the person I wish to give my item to and then email them to make pick up arrangements. Much better than spending hours in the traffic and heat on Rt. 9! (not to mention all the effort to pack up the stuff and the cost of gas transporting it!)

I occasionally give things away through Freecycle with this group and while I like it if I have a couple of items I would NOT say it is easy. I even recommended Freecycling on this forum a while back but for someone who has a lot of items it is very time consuming to use Freecycle. The idea is great but the number of people who don't show up, or who take things that weren't meant for them - which happens when you are trying to Freecycle a lot of things at once does happen. It's a great idea and if you have time then go for it but there is a learning curve involved and if travelling down RT. 9 is too time consuming then I don't recommend this.

You could contact the Vietnam Vets. They pick up at your door. If you're not home they will leave a receipt and it is an easy tax deduction.

There is Habitat for Humanity Restore on Rt. 166, just down the road of Home Depot. I believe they pick up furniture. No clothing or baby items, as far as I know.

Toms River
Northern Ocean Restore
1201 Route 166
Toms River, NJ 08753-2723 Phone: (732) 818-9500
Fax: (732) 818-9510

Can you can drive the back roads to avoid Rt. 9 traffic?
