Do you know of any townhouse/condo communities in NJ? I know there are a lot of them in Mahwah, but that's too far from NYC where we work.

hmmm , Liberty Harbor Section of Jersey City or maybe look around Historic Downtown Section of Jersey City. Plenty of Parks , Day Cares , right next to NYC , Liberty State Park , and Liberty Science Center. Schools are average , there are a few private ones. Very Diverse , Middle Class / Upper Class area , safe. Its more of an Suburban then Urban feel in both areas. Safe areas aswell.....

This might be a bit tricky , try The 2 Areas of Jersey City , ask the locals about how good the Schools are.....I believe the schools in that area , are just as good as the schools in the suburbs , but i could be sightly wrong......

That's a pretty broad question--there are hundreds of townhouse/condo communities in New Jersey--you would have to narrow down the areas at which you are interested.

If Mahwah is too far for you to commute, then what is your allowable commuting distance?

On that same commuter train line, there are townhouses in Fair Lawn, which is closer, and the schools are decent. Or you have Harmon Cove in Secaucus, which is even closer, but I don't know what schools are like over there, and at that point you are getting into more congested areas.

I'm just thinking along the Main/Bergen train line, because that's familiar to me. You might want to look at towns along the other commuter lines, too at the NJ Transit website. http://www.njtransit.com/hp/hp_servl...ion=HomePageTo

Here's a few townhome developments in Nutley & Clifton. Both have decent commutes to NYC on a bus approx 30-45minutes
Cambridge Heights - Nutley
Cambridge Crossings - Clifton
Riverwalk - Clifton
