Hello again. Well it looks like I will be visiting New Jersey sooner than I think. I have plans to go to Atlantic City for fun and North Brunswick to check out some apartments and to Trenton just for the day. My Great Uncle came over to New Jersey from Scotland back in 1920 and he lived on Garfield Avenue in Trenton according to the 1930 census records. I know the house still stands today and I want to go see it just for fun. Does anyone know if this is an unsafe area today and should I be carefull or carefree.
The chances of you getting robbed or harassed in the daytime are slim, but don't go there on a summer night unless it's in the downtown area. It's no Camden or Newark, but there's pretty good chances of feeling a pit in your stomach in the residential areas when it's warm and dark out.

Why would you put Newark in the same Category as Camden? Newark is on the up and up and Camden is , well idk.....Trenton is ok during the day.
Use one of the free mapping programs to find the house on Garfield and get a feel for the neighborhood.
Bing maps, use road map to find Garfield then switch to aerial/ bird's eye and you can see a fairly close up of the house.
Try Zillo to see a 360 view of the house and neighborhood.
here is a link to Bing maps, shows a restaurant in north jersey....just pan out to see the state, find Trenton and zoom back in. Garfield is off rt 33 in east Trenton.
if you are just going to drive by the house and take a look i wouldnt worry about it. but just know where you are going so you dont get lost. trenton in general is pretty run down these days. there is no point in comparing trenton to newark or camden, because you arent going there. you are going to trenton. facts are it is a gang infested **** hole. i know this for a fact because i work in the law enforcement field in trenton. you will most likely be disappointed when you see the place because the people that live in the area now do not give a crap about it. no upkeep of the property because it is rented, and the gov't pays for their housing.
Thank you to all who answered my question regarding Trenton. Actually one of the first things I did was look at the street on google earth a few weeks ago, it did look a bit run down to me but there are a lot of ****y section 8 places over here in Cleveland too, with more areas worse than others... I think The City of Cleveland ranks one of the top 10 worst cities to live.Lol I also found out that the property last sold in 2007 for $7000....mmmm. I'm just wondering if people would freek out if they see me taking pictures of the house. I'm also hoping to find out where he was buried. Records state Mercer County although I know there are more than one Mercer Counties but it's most probably the one in NJ. I wonder if I should go to the Court House or something. Oh, I will have my GPS/SATNAV so def. won't get lost.
Maybe outside the statehouse with a hundred cops nearby. My girlfriend used to work at a school in Trenton. They had to have an army of police escort the teachers to their cars after the school day ended so they wouldn't be harassed and mugged on the way. I drove her there once and saw the bullet holes lodged into the school building, of all places.
I once went there at 3 p.m. on a sunny Saturday to pick her up from an event and I was pretty scared at a lot of those red lights, and I'm a 6'3, 220lb male who can stick up for myself. Of course, a bullet trumps all.
