Highway Gothic E series appears blurry with bright headlights (makes it difficult to read especially for those with poor eyesight) and the Clearview font has helped reduce that problem. So I think NMDOT should use the new font statewide just like the neighbor states Arizona and Texas are doing.

The day I got my wisdom teeth out I saw a sign on US 84/285 south that was both in Highway Gothic and Clearview; that was one of the signs for the Santa Fe Opera exit.

If NM doesn't convert to Clearview I hope they'll at least abandon Highway Gothic series E(M) and either go to Series D or Series E as they're both easier to read compared to Series E(M)

Those with poor eyesight shouldn't be driving without glasses, or while impaired.

Notice that Series D and Series E tend to stand out more than Series E(M) does. On the AARoads forum about the Clearview phenomenon, one posted about signs on I-390 in Rochester, NY using Series E but with Series E(M) spacing and said it's easier to read than Clearview and Series E(M). I hope the FHWA will discontinue Series E(M) eventually.

I also hope that if NM (along with several other states sticking with the FHWA fonts) never switches to Clearview, Series D or Series E replaces Series E(M)

It appears Clearview has finally been officially approved in New Mexico but varies by district. Earlier today I saw Clearview signs on I-25, NM 599, US 84/285, and NM 502. But at the reconstructed I-25/US 550 interchange, the new overhead signs were still in the standard FHWA fonts. So it looks like District 5 of the NMDOT is using the new font while District 3 is still using Highway Gothic.

Again I do hope if some districts continue using Highway Gothic that they'll discontinue using Series E modified and go with a different weight like mixed-case Series D or mixed-case Series E. Had the FHWA discontinued Series E modified after button copy signs were discontinued, then Clearview wouldn't have been developed.
