Could someone please tell me more about Timberon?
Average costs of propane and electricity. What
you do in case of health emergencies?
We are seriously thinking of relocating to Tim-
beron in the next year or early 2012. Have heard
lots of wonderful comments about it, the beauty
of the area, the friendly people....
Thanks
As I'm sure you are aware, your utilities are going to cost you more or less depending on your household setup.
In our case (family of three) We live in a 2200 sq ft home that is well insulated. Main heating is a wood burning stove. Only used in the winter.
No need for AC.
We have a large propane tank and get it filled up once a year, 325 gallons costs us about $700. We have propane stovetop, and wall heater.
Our normal electricity bill is averaged at $157/month that is with electric washer, dryer, dishwasher, water heater, oven.
Water/trash (billed together) $35/month
In case of health emergencies, we call 911. Our EMT's are local, here on the mountain, complete with ambulance. Nearest full service hospital is 50 miles away in Alamogordo.
Major shopping is also 50 miles away in Alamogordo, although there are a couple small grocery stores here.
We've lived here since 2007 (relocated from SoCal) and love the laid-back lifestyle and the clean mountain air. Whenever I have to go down the hill shopping, I can't WAIT to get back up on the mountain.
Hi chopshop - It's called a CDP (census designated place), which just means it has a concentration of people but no government. No mayor, no resident police force, etc.
There are two restaurants - one with a bar, two markets (actually three, but one is hardly ever open), a Post Office, a golf course, a new swimming pool (closed for the winter), a water department, a development council, a church, a phone company, an ATV rental place, a couple contractors, propane, Realtors, a newspaper, and probably more that I can't remember.
Website tells much more: Timberon Development Council
There is no cell phone service. Yet. The TDC is working on it. We do have good reliable DSL internet with the phone company.
The kids are bussed about 35-40 miles to Cloudcroft for school.
Hi chopshop - last I heard, there are about 300-350 people here. I do not know if this means full-time residents or not. The hunting seasons and summertime brings them in. It's a little emptier during the winter months.
The drive to Cloudcroft can take anywhere from 40-60 minutes depending on road conditions.
Hi again, thanks for the welcome and the information.
A while back I was told there was a water shortage
problem in Timberon, is this true? The only place I
could find was some info. on Cloudcroft having problems
a few years back...could this of been what they were
talking about?
So looking forward to moving to Timberon and getting away
from the big city and the horrible heat that comes with
living in Texas...
