I want to voice my experience with Alamogordo for those who are considering moving there. I have lived in New Mexico all my life and I feel like most places, NM has many positives and negatives. I have lived in Portales, Roswell, Albuquerque and Ruidoso. I made the decision to move to Alamo for work-related reasons. On the surface, the town is not very pretty. There is not much beautification effort put forth such as landscaping and taking care of weeds and rundown buildings. Like many other places in NM, when the wind blows, you get dust storms. Many times a person can look past the exterior when there are positives such as jobs, schools, and housing.

Just in the time it took me to scope out the town and find a place to rent, I saw more residents litter in broad daylight than I have in the past five years living in another community in the state.

I found a place to rent near a school that had a high rating. The neighborhood looked quiet and safe. Moving in required two trips with a trailer. Both times that I was unloading, I was approached by two different transients asking for money. One smelled of alcohol. Keep in mind this was a residential neighborhood. I have lived in some rough spots in Albuquerque and never felt that worried about my surroundings.

My biggest complaint about my short-lived stay in Alamo, however, was the [mod] This is not the right place for consumer complaints. I don't need to go into too much detail, just check out their Better Business Bureau rating for yourself. If I had, I would have been saved a lot of heartache and expense. Basically, their D- rating comes from a lack of communication on their part. This was also my experience with them. Within the first week of moving in, I discovered several things that needed repair. I communicated these problems to them. On one of the repairs, I was told twice before even signing the lease that this issue existed and would be repaired. I received a phone call from the repairman stating he was going to be over that afternoon to do the repair work. He never showed, he never rescheduled. I informed the rental agency that the issue was not taken care of and was never given an answer as to why it wasn't repaired and was not told when I could expect it. I gave them a week to resolve this issue as well as the others and never got a response, so I moved out. They refused to give me back my deposit. When I complained to the manager about their lack of communication, all she could say was that I was right, that they should have communicated better with me, but she refused to give me back my deposit saying that I did not have grounds to terminate my lease. My issues were with an oven that did not work, a back door that was broken, a broken mirror with exposed jagged glass and a bathtub that did not drain.

Do your homework before you buy or rent anything in that town if you must move there. I really think the town is infested with meth-heads. There are other communities around Alamogordo that are cleaner and safer. Tularosa, Carrizozo, and Ruidoso are among them. I would recommend living in any of those if you must move to Alamogordo due to work reasons.

I also forgot to mention that on the New Mexico court case lookup, - has well over 3 pages of court cases where they are the plaintiff. You can compare that to - in Ruidoso that only has maybe half a page or you can compare that to - which is also in Alamo. They only have one and a half pages. It seems that they are also sue happy, willing to go to court over anything.

Tularosa has more metheads than I have ever seen. Just go into the Lowe's grocery store or watch the parking lot, deals being done everywhere. I am pretty sure some of the employees are dealing the stuff. Their eyes are aglow. I've been through Tularosa about 2 dozen times on my way to Ruidoso and it is amazing how messed up some of the people are.

My experience in Alamagordo was negative as well. Long story short, our car was stolen by a "friend" who was supposed to be transporting it for us from CA to Santa Fe. We got a call from the local dealership that our car was there. In terms of our commercial transactions, we were treated fairly and professionally. Otherwise we can't say much for the place due to dust, litter and blight.
