Sooner, Walmart has McCormick Country white gravy or sausage gravy. It is easy to make, just add water and make sure you stir often when microwaving. It is similiar to Dairy Queen's gravy. Serve with some Texas toast or over Hungry Jack biscuits, also at Walmart.
Sounds like you're having a rather tough time adjusting to your culture shock....I hope things get better for you soon....and that you enjoy your stay there eventually.
Sooner ~ Oh, how your gravy posts bring back memories!
When we first moved to New Mexico (Kirtland Air Force Base) in the early 1970s, and my husband's cousin in Santa Fe said she was going to make "gravy" ... as a New Yorker, I naturally thought she was talking about GRAVY. haha. I couldn't believe it when her gravy turned out to be green chile gravy.
It was my first indication that I was in a whole new world. Little cultural things like that were so fascinating to me and started my long-time love affair with the state of New Mexico.
Sooner, if you ever go to Albuquerque, go to the 66 Diner on 1405 Central Avenue NE. It is one great place for chicken fried steak, white cream gravy and potatoes and they make great burgers and milkshakes, not to mention the great pies. You can see their menu at 66diner and add the www and the .com to it. I am getting hungry just thinking about it!
Towanda, I haven't had those but sounds good! I think the 66 Diner has the best milkshakes around. They also have great pies. OK, I got to stop, I am getting hungry too!
Congrats on moving to Gallup. I live in Zuni, NM and we go to Gallup to do our shopping and every weekend the Wal-Mart is filled to capacity. Gallup should consider building a second Wal-Mart.
I KNOW!! I've never seen a town of 20000 people with that large a Wal-Mart! I was so shocked to see it that full on a Saturday!
