The ROSWELL MUSEUM AND ART CENTER houses the workshop of Dr. Goddard, along with other items from the collection of early rocketry. There is a statue of him that stands in front of the museum.

There is a auto junk yard in Carrizozo that has some extremely rare vehicles. Owner doesn't part with much there.

Joqua - Thank You. I saw a replica of Dr. Goddard's first liquid fuel rocket at the space History Museum (must see BTW) in Alamogordo and was amazed at the simplicity. I built a similar rocket motor out of some steel stock when I was 12 or 13. It ran on compressed air (no liquid O2 available) and propane. It made a lot of noise but did not do much else. Great fun anyway.

Article in today's Ruidoso News:

carrizozo-plans-downtown-historic-district-under-new-program

Quoted in the article, Ray Dean (and wife Dianne) have been tireless contributors to, and often ramrodding, various town improvement projects since first moving to town some ~10 years ago.

Ran across this set of latter day photos of Carrizozo by local photographer/marine biologist Richard Bryant that are worthy of merit:
