Nice photos! ...love those White Sands ....very easy to get disoriented ...I went for walk at dusk ...I thought I knew where I had parked my car then had a really difficult time finding it ....I was "escorted" out after dark by a park ranger who told me stories about the time Micky Rourke was there filming the movie "White Sands" ....I think sunrise and sunset are the best ...the dunes take on an otherworldly glow ...definitely a must see place!

I would like to set up a lounge chair and spend the night with a friend and a couple pair of image stabilized binoculars. Having a quarter moon rising at midnight would be perfect.

If you ever get a chance go on the Lake Lucero tour. It is very interesting to know how White Sands is built up. It's a little drive in on the missile range to Lake Lucero but the view is nice on the drive. When we went the caravan of cars started to slow way down. There were some oryx next to the road including a calf. To me it is amazing how those brown-beige crystals of gypsum turn into white sands.

They do have what I think they call star parties at times. You can set up a tent and stay overnight. I don't know when they have them or if it is just for special times but you may want to check it out. I personally have seen tents pitched out there.
