Hmmm what would New Mexico display???maybe fluorescence
Green
Ohio is doing this now(yellow) and Washington state is considering it..
I think it would be an darn good idea....
And speaking of DUI, recent article in the Cibola County paper said something about a person getting their "7th" DUI and only getting 6mos + fines...
The law says minimum of "The seventh offense is a third degree felony. It is punishable by up to 3 years in prison, 2 years of which may not be suspended."++++
Plus it is a felony.....
New Mexico needs to really get some funding (fed) and get the DUI's off the road.......Green plate + whatever.
Ok, now we have to devise a system for those convicted of certain crimes and what color their license plates should be.... Talk about the Scarlet Letter...yippy...
Maybe DUI, Sex offenders, and Felons...there that keeps it simple..
oh, and if someone other than the offender drives the offenders car, well, too bad....unless the offender is under the influence or
RE: Mike0421:
I think we are closer to that then we think..
There are already "no fly" lists, and I believe I read somewhere "Fed Drivers Lic" or ID could be in the works.
Credit bureas, FBI, NCIS, IRS..., +++ "The Mark of the Beast" is real
The idea of "marked" lic plates or other "insignia" to alert others that according to "their" arrest record is a "know" and possible dangerous threat to the public.
The marking would only apply to those that have reached a level ofconviction that warrants such display.
Therefore, if you are given limited driving privileges, you are required to use these plates for a minimum period of six months. AND these plates must be used even if other members of your family drive the vehicle.

"Therefore, if you are given limited driving privileges, you are required to use these plates for a minimum period of six months and these plates must be used even if other members of your family drive the vehicle." (From Ohio DUI law.) Check OHIO DUI laws.
The govt is controlling more & more of our lives. A DUI offender should not be permitted to drive....period. MANY people have died or been badly injured thanks to these careless drunks.
I love this idea! I know someone who, just last week...NOT in NM got their THIRD DWI in two years and didn't even go right to jail after the arrest...is just awaiting trial. What in the world is WRONG with our justice system?!
Although I love the idea...I do have to agree with the thought someone mentioned earlier: Scarlet Letter. I would imagine someone somewhere is going to contest that this is an invasion of some sort of privacy...as if they deserve any at all!
From today's Santa Fe news story about a five-car accident on Cerrillos Rd that left two sisters dead and seven other injured, some critical:
Quote:
Ruiz is in custody, charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of driving while his license was suspended or revoked. According to online court records, Ruiz has multiple DWI offenses and spent 60 days in a rehabilitation program in California in 2008. Jury selection was set to begin Wednesday in a 2008 drunken-driving case.
WHY OH WHY we all continue to ask? What the hell is wrong with this state's legal system that it can't seem to control these repeat offenders? It's taken TWO YEARS to bring this perp to trial for a 2008 offense and he's out and driving around the entire time??? GRRRRRRRRRR!!!
