Hello,

I am from India and have recently got a position in LANL. I would be moving there in August end. I am interested to know about the housing facility near LANL, as want to stay close to the institute. I searched on the internet about some of the aparment rental websites which provide 1 bed room apartment at 900 USD (plus deposit). I wanted to know from the residents of Los Alamos about housing near LANL, so posted my query in this forum. Could anyone from Los Alamos tell me whether it's easy to get a single bedroom apartment near the institute and what would the average rent and deposit rates ?

Thanks and have a nice weekend.

Regards
BHARAT

I would look into the studio apartments off Central Ave. They are conveniently located, have short term leases, and can be rented with furniture (about $800/month). One complex is called Casa de Luz. I'm not sure if I can post their link but they do have a website. I suggest you call or email about availability since we have a bunch of students in town right now. Housing in general is hard to find right now because of the summer students. Good Luck!

I was in Los Alamos over 40 years ago for brief periods. We have lived in New Mexico for the past 20 years. I really don't have any opinions on Los Alamos. I have known people who have worked there...

Here are the major threads on Los Alamos:

A pleasant, small town located up in the mountains/high-desert. Dry air, high elevation, lots of smart people, lots of cool science happening, mostly government security-clearance jobs, so impossible to get a job unless you're a U.S. citizen.

Los Alamos County always makes the short list of highest income counties in the US. Here is one from 2018, putting LA at #8:
