I see a lot of jobs in my field there. I don't have much experience, so I must start in a place where there is less competition for jobs. If I can work for 1-2 years, then I can gain experience and go to a nicer place. But the safety issue seems too serious, so I'll try elsewhere.

I just spent an afternoon and night in Gallup last week. I thought it might be an interesting little place. It's not. To be honest, my impression is that it's the armpit of New Mexico. As far as for travelers, it's good for the hotels and restaurants halfway between Albuquerque and Flagstaff. There is no other reason for tourists to go there, and I hope to not return.
