I am interested to know the typical winter snow fall for the North/South Foothills and East Mountain areas such as Tijeras, Cedar Crest and Edgewood. Thanks.
The foothills of Albuquerque can frequently get snow at the same time
that the valley is getting sun. I suppose you are wondering about
accumulations and getting around in it. I also assume when you say
"foothills" you are saying West side foothills.
At least twice a year (we hope) the foothills will get a good 6-10"
dumping. That might translate into a 2-3" snowfall on the Big I.
Albuquerque city services might get out and plow/sand/salt some of
it, but mostly 'we' count on the snow burning off the next day or so.
This December it was difficult to get around the foothills for about a
week when the city got about a foot of snow.
The East Mountains will get about 50% more snow than the West
foothills when the foothills get snow. It will also get some 2-3"
snowfalls when the city side gets nothing.
I haven't lived in the East Mountains, but my impression is that they
get less bad winter weather than Denver. However, even Denver is
nothing compared to upstate NY. Winter in OH is generally also worse
than winter in the East Mountains.

If you're from the east coast it will seem like no snow at all. I hope things have changed since the last time I lived in Alb. Then the city didn't have much in the way of snow removal equipment since it was so seldom needed. When it did snow it was hard getting up to the NE Heights as it took so long for the sand trucks to take care the ice. Even harder getting down those hills. But it never lasted very long.
Dreary drizzle in Uptown... great view of the Sandias though.
