WRONG: Canada had lots of protests in June, including 20,000 people protesting in Ottawa on June 5, just one out of dozens of cities where protests occurred across Canada, while Albuquerque's protests numbered only in the hundreds.

Please let's change the subject from the protests back to how this virus is really running wild in the US: lack of coherent leadership. The protests are a distraction and the protesters are being scapegoated which has derailed the thread long enough.

“It’s like night and day,” said Dr Isaac Bogoch, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Toronto, of the stark differences between the two countries. “From coast to coast, we have the epidemic in Canada under excellent control. We’ve been able to suppress cases at the community level. Of course, we’re still seeing some small outbreaks, but we’ve been able to suppress the vast majority of the infection and rapidly identify small outbreaks.”

"With a population of nearly 38 million people, Canada is recording roughly 300 new infections each day, with a total nearly 28,000 active cases.

"The US has a population nearly nine times larger, but its caseload – 1.6 million – is 60 times higher, and growing.

"The early months of the pandemic provide clues to the current realities in each country. Trump’s erratic leadership and determination to downplay the threat derailed efforts to swiftly contain the virus in the US. In Canada, consistent messaging from public health officials – and an emphasis on kindness – underscored a shared sense of duty.

“We locked down and we suppressed this virus. We stayed locked down because they told us to stay locked down. And we only opened up when they said it was okay to open up,” said Bogoch. “It hurt, but we did it.”

Is Trump a King, Aires? I think you are putting a lot of emphasis on one person.

Didn't it take a federal judge to tell him that he isn't king?

A huge, ridiculous and dangerous protest on Civic Plaza from the other side today (Thursday). These people annoy the hell out of me.

https://www.krqe.com/news/protests/h...t-civic-plaza/

A ridiculous statement from AFR about the protest and enforcing the mask orders.

Quote:
As with the mass gathering ban, we understand that the legal rules are different when people are exercising their first amendment right to protest.
The legal rules aren't different for these protests. We are under emergency health orders during a pandemic. Courts have already upheld the rules and restrictions put in place. Now is not the time for individual freedoms of a few to override the health and well-being of the entire population at large. Protesting is not a necessity right now.

How anybody could have a problem with wearing a mask is beyond me. It's the least we can do and would indeed help us to get things under control and back to normal faster. These people infuriate me!

What "other side"? You are still laboring under the delusion that the protests over George Floyd's killing are partisan, after it was shown they have broad support across the political spectrum. I noticed pastors from conservative evangelical churches in ABQ participating in them, which suggests many from their congregations did also. It turns out that even some conservatives recognize torture and murder when they see it, and are outraged.

But the protest you reference from yesterday at Civic Plaza was strictly partisan, with "Cow-chips for Trump" present. These folks are actually protesting against public health, which will damage the economy even more. It's easy to see how Republicans are racing towards mass extinction in New Mexico politics. What do they do when they want to go to Walmart, which now requires masks in all stores?

Right, the BLM protests are bipartisan affairs. You are a partisan crackpot and you are free to ignore me and my posts if they rile you up so much.

You don't rile me up at all, you just amuse me with your provincial views. You need to get out more, once the pandemic is over.

From USA Today:

"Federal Agency: Supporting Black Lives Matter isn't Partisan or Political"

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ys/5452397002/

Go ahead and start another thread where you can dump on BLM, since this thread is supposed to be about Covid-19.

Meanwhile, an interesting article yesterday from the Washington Times contrasting Arizona's and New Mexico's response to the pandemic:

"As Arizona struggles, neighboring New Mexico found a more cautious path to sustained growth"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/busin...page/story-ans

"The two states took much different paths in May toward reopening their economies, and Arizona’s aggressive approach appears to have backfired."

I don't know what the hell you're babbling on about. These protests were never bipartisan affairs. And they aren't particularly about George Floyd or police misconduct anymore either.

In the very beginning they were about George Floyd but they have been taken over by an anti-American, anti-capitalist agenda.

Every sane person knows that and I would hope every sane person who does not believe America itself is bad would be against what these protests have turned into. That's on top of the fact that the protests are dangerous and highly irresponsible during this pandemic. I just lost my first family member yesterday to this virus. It infuriates me to see people behave like children and devolve into tribal groups based on politics. Our biggest duty right now is to control this pandemic the best we can and protect the most vulnerable among us.

Thank God New Mexico isn't in as bad a situation as our neighboring states. But it's all relative, we were worse off months ago and we could easily get there again if we continue having people act like children and be out there protesting just for kicks and to prove some stupid point against the government, and that's on both sides. We are doing bad in New Mexico right now, regardless of the situation in relationship to other states that are in a horrendous position with regard to this pandemic.

New Mexico yesterday had the highest amount of deaths in over a month with 10 people losing their lives to this virus. We are no longer seeing daily case counts below 200, instead we are seeing cases in the 200s and 300s now. And young people continue to be the largest group of new cases.

https://www.abqjournal.com/1478167/n...n-40-days.html

Obviously not all is well in New Mexico with regard to this pandemic. So I don't understand the cheerleading for New Mexico against other states. Yes, New Mexico's governor has done a good job in terms of not denying the pandemic in the first place or its seriousness, in ordering masks, etc., but she has failed in making sure everybody is held accountable and to the same standard of conduct during this pandemic.

So stop with the blind cheerleading.

Bernalillo County has now shot past McKinley County to top the state in total cases. This is particularly scary because once Albuquerque becomes a hotspot we will see cases rise like never before in this state. Instead of cheerleading and being complacent we should be challenging our leaders and questioning whether they have done or are doing all they can to prevent the spread of this virus.

The very latest map from KRQE showing cases by county in New Mexico as of today's numbers.

I think Dona Ana County is the emerging hotspot. 1/3 the population and half the cases of Bernalillo and also growing rapidly.
