Having moved here from northwest Arkansas it wasn't as big of a shock as I thought it would be due to the moderate nature of this place. Albuquerque has the biggest job market, yes, but crime is a serious problem in that city in a way that it isn't here in cruces. Granted, my experience with Albuquerque is limited.
Okay thanks shadowmoses.I am not concerned about the job market because i will live off of business income.

It seems like you have thought this issue over very well and hopefully you will make the right decision for you.

To remark of answer some of what I have posted before: similarities between the 2 cities: both are considered small in the scoop of things. I think the weather would be similar and the demographics of the population somewhat similar: more country than urban. I am basing this on just a few times in the 2 cities so I may be totally off base here.

Jobs not being an issue, that is a good thing regardless when you choose to live: one less consideration.

Crime: certainly the Duke city has and always has had a crime problem, but there are small cities like Rio Rancho that are part of the metro district with lower crime and lower employment rates.

Church wise: as long as you are sure you can find a church, regardless of denomination that suits you there should be no issue.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Okay thanks nmnita.Ya your right both Midland and Las Cruces are small in the grand scheme of things.I agree the climates would be similar. However, I think Las Cruces would be drier.Your right that the cities are not very urban.Okay maybe Ill post a thread if and when i make the move. Thanks again.

Hope its not too late. Your last paragraph said it best:
Stay where you are and just come to visit.
I traveled for 4 years, much of it in New Mexico, but living in Las Cruces for 4 years has brought new meaning to the words depressing and oppressed.

Las Cruces, bad choice for anyone new, and especially single.

My limited experience with Las Cruces was that it seemed subdued compared to Albuquerque. It seemed like a suburb in search of a city in some respects. I enjoyed my visit and the university seemed nice. I visited with some ABQ transplants and they said that LC was Albuquerque forty years ago. I wouldn’t know about that.
