We've been staying inside for the past 3 months now here in Houston. My family of 4 would really like to spend some time this summer in a beautiful, cooler place, where we can hike outside without dying of heat exhaustion and see some pretty mountains. We aren't looking to party, or be close to other people. We social distance, wear masks, do curbside if dining "out", etc., and would continue to do so. Just wondering if New Mexico areas are open to visitors? Specifically the areas of Angel Fire/Red River. Like the parks and trails and such. Trying to figure out a nice place to go that could use some tourism dollars.
Thanks. Yes, when we vacation - we tend to use VRBOs and stay 3-4 weeks. We would cook at "home" for the most part. We really just like to go cooler climates to get some respite from our heat and humidity. We enjoy hiking, which is why I'm looking at places that have national parks open. I know it won't be like normal - but if I have to spend 3 MORE months staring at my own 4 walls, while keeping my 10 and 14 year old sane as well, I just might legit loose my mind!! Even if I can sit on a patio/deck and look at some beautiful scenery...I'm cool with that.

Even though restaurants and other businesses are allowed to open, many have not yet reopened. Since motels are operating at limited capacity, you'll probably need to make reservations ASAP before things fill up. There are probably a lot of people who are thinking like you now. All hiking trails are open; what's more likely to close them is if we have increasing drought and fire danger. Face coverings are required in public except when exercising, eating, and drinking.

Here in the tourist town of Ruidoso, where I live, no one is enforcing any of the so-called rules. I notice a sign at the entrance to Walmart today that said: "Face coverings for shoppers are recommended!" They are required of Walmart employees.
