I found a very useful tool today for risk assessment of any property, just put in the address. It will show historically all major environmental events. I put in Las Cruces, but you can adjust that to your desires.

And neither can I anymore! I had put in my location for flood assessment but now I don't know how I did it. You can though explore the site and find out different things. Here is Las Cruces, https://www.arcgis.com/apps/MapJourn...c2da7b10ab13c#
and here is lots of info on the desert sw in general to start exploring-- https://nca2014.globalchange.gov/rep...ions/southwest
and here is a Phoenix search I did https://doc.arcgis.com/search/?q=pho...collection=all

There is going to be a learning curve and hours necessary to learn how to use that site and plug in data from different sources, it is not all done for us. It looks like an excellent site once a person knows how to use it, not simple, not quick and easy.

The climate is not changing.

OK, how bout me?

Grew up in NM, interested in going back to the right place. (Not anywhere near the Permian, though, please.)

But? Not old enough to retire yet.

Need job! (Work in the papers biz currently.)

What's your question? You grew up in NM, know the town you don't want to return to, so?

I lived in Santa Fe and Taos for seven years, drove back and forth to Corrales and Albuquerque many times, also to Silver City to the south and Questa and Red River to the north, and never saw or even heard of a "sinkhole" in New Mexico. You may be unnecessarily worried. It sounds like you might need to make an exploratory trip. By no means should you move to a place you've never even seen.
